About Training
Training in Bujinkan Ninjutsu Gold Coast Dojo is conducted by 15th Dan Shihan’s Lynda and Mark, with direct and daily connection to Dai Shihan Darren Horvath who lives and trains in Japan. Sensei’s Mark and Lynda are regular visitors to Japan where they train with Soke Hatsumi Sensei, Nogouchi Sensei, Nagato Sensei, and Darren Sensei.
Bujinkan Ninjutsu Gold Coast Dojo learns and teaches the current themes being taught in Japan and is in constant contact with those from our dojo group living and studying in Japan. The feeling is very important!
We hold Basic Classes for everyone including new students, Advanced Classes for students who have reached a particular stage in development, special training courses for our Fast Track Black Belt students, Goshinjutsu (enlightenment) classes, Gold Coast Ninjutsu (fitness focus) classes as well as personal training with Ninja Warrior Fitness. Check the timetable here.
The dojo is in a private space in Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast, QLD. Access is strictly by invitation only. For information about booking a trial lesson, Goshinjutsu, GC Ninjutsu or Ninja Warrior class, circuit class, or if you want to get started in you ninjutsu study, go here.
Taijutsu
All Ninjutsu is based in Taijutsu, or body movement, and our art is often called “Ninpo Taijutsu”. It is studied through the forms of San Shin no Kata and Kihon Happo. There are 5 “san shin no kata” – chi (earth), sui (water), ka (fire), fu (air) and ku (void). And, there are 8 basic forms of Kihon Happo. These 13 “waza” form “10,000 variations, no surprises” and are the basis of “Ninpo Taijutsu”.
Taijutsu study and practice through San Shin no Kata and Kihon Happo, taihenjutsu (ninja style athletic movements), ukemi (absorbing, remaining safe, and basic rolling and breakfalls), and the basics of effective punching, kicking, and striking, make up the bulk of the Basic Classes offered to new students.
The Bujinkan consists of nine schools, each with variations of kihon happo, and each with their own particular waza. The nine schools are studied in detail in the “Advanced” classes open to 5th kyu students and above.
Weapons
Ninja’s use a lot of weapons, and interchange weapons freely. Katana, touchi, wakasachi, tanto, various types of knives, and larger bladed weapons such as naganato, spears, halberd, and yari. Unexpected weapons like kuni, rope, small chained weapons, shiriken of various type, other throwing tools, and other little surprises! Then there are the bo and jo, and variations on staff weapons, some with hidden chains and blades, often disguised, and the nui bo, battle axe and other large weapons.
Basic Classes cover some weapons handling such as spinning the bo, weapon kamae (postures), and taijutsu with weapons.
Advanced classes explore weapon use and the free interplay of having weapons and not having weapons.
Ladies Only Self Defence Classes & Workshops
Shihan Lynda Lehmann leads ladies only “self defence” classes. These classes focus on awareness, avoiding “victim” behaviour, avoiding dangerous situations, tactics to get out of sticky situations, and if worse comes to worse, how to survive!
Bujinkan Ninjutsu is unique in that it does not rely on strength, power or speed and is therefore uniquely suited to women’s self defence.
Classes and workshops can be arranged for individuals, small groups, schools, and various groups. Please enquire here...
Yoroi (Armour)
Many of the traditional forms of Ninjutsu are derived from times in history when Samurai wore armour called Yoroi. Training in Yoroi is very important for your taijutsu. Its also a lot of fun. We like to train in armour often!
Advanced students and Fast Track Black Belt Students are often invited to train in Yoroi.
We also hold workshops where students can learn how to make their own Yoroi and some weapons!
Outdoor Training
BNGCD trains outdoors in the natural environment on a regular basis. Utilising uneven ground, natural features, and the elements to accelerate your taijutsu! Who has the sun in their eyes, who is on the higher ground, who can climb a tree, or jump from a height and roll to safety? Archery, flying fox, large weapons and other fun!
Special Events
Regular seminars held by various Sensei’s as they arrive back from Japan – best chance to have the feeling from Japan transmitted to you!
– Regular outdoor training.
– Regular long seminars and an annual training camp
– Annual “Daikomyosai” black tie dinner.
– Seniors (5th kyu and above) can attend special opportunities for more in-depth study into the philosophy and strategy of Bujinkan. (These events are by invitation only.)
Training in Japan
Lynda Sensei & Mark Sensei visit Japan regularly, almost monthly! Direct flights to Japan and having someone there ready to orientate you, and show you the ropes, makes visiting Japan for training very easy. Please discuss your interest in visiting the Hombu with your Sensei’s before you travel.
Fast Track Black Belt Course
BNGCD offers a Fast Track Black Belt Course. Only suitable individuals may be accepted into the course due to the intensive nature of the training required. However, those individuals, who are open minded and dedicated CAN achieve a high level in a short period of time. Please check out the Fast Track Black Belt Page for more information.
